Born From the Barre Studio

Urban Savage started with a problem Michelle Kluz saw firsthand. As CEO of Pure Barre, one of America’s best-known barre fitness chains, she heard from studio owners that activewear lacked interesting fashion options, and she’d grown bored with what was available herself. With a design background, she began making the pieces she wanted to wear. The name reflects her vision: “Urban” for a sophisticated Downtown New York feel, and “Savage” for the customer, who Kluz describes as “a force of nature.” She sees the brand as “a fashion and lifestyle brand” first, releasing new seasonal styles rather than a fixed basics range.

Fabrics and Function

Kluz has been specific about her fabrics. The woven stretch fabric offers strong stretch and recovery, which she says most brands avoid because of the cost. The mildly compressive eco fabric has UPF 50 sun protection, useful for outdoor workouts and tennis, and she says it “reduces lactic acid buildup during cardio,” a claim we haven’t seen independently tested. A “second skin” four-way stretch fabric is designed for yoga’s range of motion. Practical details include hidden internal pockets on leggings and an adjustable hook-and-eye closure on the McCarren bra. These choices suggest a brand that thinks about performance as well as looks, though without customer reviews, real-world durability is still unproven.

Style: Activewear You Can Wear Anywhere

Kluz rejects the usual “street to studio” pitch. Instead, she says “the gear needs to work with everything in your wardrobe.” That shows in the range: tennis-ready flutter and Volley dresses, the Baseline Skirt and V-neck top in white, royal and mint, pleated hoodies, and leggings with heart and 3D floral designs. The Pink Fairway Top hints at golf as well as tennis. For women who want their workout clothes to look as considered as the rest of their wardrobe, Urban Savage offers more personality than standard black leggings. Bold prints won’t suit everyone, though, and the brand focuses on statement pieces rather than plain basics.

Price, Shipping and the Review Gap

Urban Savage is premium-priced: leggings at $135–$150, skirts at $130–$140, dresses around $160 and tops from $75. That’s in line with luxury activewear brands. Free shipping and free exchanges on all U.S. orders reduce the risk of ordering the wrong size. The biggest unknown is customer feedback: Thingtesting lists no reviews, and we couldn’t find independent buyer reviews on fit, fabric durability or service. Read the size chart carefully, take advantage of free exchanges, and start with one piece before building a wardrobe.

The Verdict

Urban Savage brings genuine fashion sense to activewear, shaped by a founder who knows the fitness world from the inside. Thoughtful fabrics, UPF 50 protection, hidden pockets and statement tennis dresses and leggings make it stand out from plain basics, and free U.S. shipping and exchanges lower the risk of trying it. Premium prices and an almost complete lack of customer reviews mean you’ll be an early judge. Check the size chart, use the free exchanges and start with one piece. If the fit works, Urban Savage is a stylish way to make your workout wardrobe more interesting.
