Review Methodology
How we choose, test, score and revisit the products we recommend.
A recommendation is only worth something if you know how it was arrived at. This is our process.
How products get on the shortlist
We start from what people actually search for and what our editors already use. Brands can send us products, but sending one does not get it tested and never gets it recommended. We buy roughly 80% of what we test.
How long we test
Minimum four weeks for small objects, minimum three months for anything you sleep on, cook with, or walk over. Reviews carry the length of testing at the top, and we say when a test was shorter than we would like.
How we score
Five criteria, weighted: performance in real use (40%), build and materials (20%), how it ages (20%), value at the price paid (10%), and the experience of living with it (10%). Ratings are out of five, to one decimal place.
Make Your Home Feel Like You.
One letter, every Saturday morning: a room we cannot stop thinking about, three things worth owning, and whatever we have been testing that week. No sponsored placements, ever.
